Overview

Preparing teachers and school leaders to teach and work with all students to meet society’s demands for high performance has created new goals and higher standards for educators. Accreditation is one measure of quality assurance.

The United States Secretary of Education officially recognizes the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE.org) as the national professional accrediting agency for schools, colleges, and departments of education that prepare teachers, administrators and other professional personnel.

The New York State Education Department requires that all colleges that prepare teachers and school personnel have nationally accredited programs by 2006.

The School of Education is a candidate for NCATE accreditation and will be hosting the Board of Examiners visit which includes a national and state team from October 29 through November 2, 2005. The SoE will conduct a mock visit June 6-8, 2005. The purpose of the mock visit is to determine readiness for the Board of Examiners Visit. The SoE faculty and staff are in the process of preparing for the review of all initial and professional programs offered by the School of Education.
