Teamwork Statement Ralph C. Wilson, Jr. School of Education
“Long term success in a work environment can often be predicted based on the level of trust, respect, honesty, humor, integrity, hard work, communication and shared responsibility that is exhibited by its people.”
To this end: the faculty and staff in the School of Education have endorsed the following statements to promote teamwork and positive working relationships, and to sustain a culture of collegiality:
Behavior
- Listen to and respect each other by recognizing each person’s right to disagree and be heard.
- Be loyal to each other and take collective responsibility for our decisions.
- Be open and honest while demonstrating flexibility and sensitivity.
- Honor and support each other’s roles, requests, contributions, and needs.
- Stretch our limits while being mindful of our limitations.
- Recognize and celebrate individual and collective successes.
- Accept constructive criticism, suggestions or inquiries about our work.
- Provide help to each other while being sensitive to individual needs.
- Use data, research and discussions to inform our decisions.
- Use humor to help keep things in the proper perspective.
Communication
- Share information with each other regularly on actions and the resolution of issues, and follow-up with each other accordingly.
- Maintain confidentiality and avoid “leaking” sensitive information with others outside of the team.
- Promote and model appropriate use of workplace technology to support frequent and ongoing communication.
Meeting Protocols
- Limit during-meeting cell phone interruptions to “emergency” calls.
- Do not interrupt each other or have “side conversations” while others have the floor.
- Be on time, and start and end meetings on time and stick to the agenda.
